Wicklewood X Mola Sasa is a collaboration which celebrates a kindred aesthetic - vivid colour, vibrant motifs, impeccable finishing and aligned philosophies - preserving artisan traditions, sourcing sustainable materials and working with local female artisans to empower women. This square cushion, crafted in an array of colourful Kuna fabrics, is handmade by the Guna Dule indigenous women and is inspired by a vintage Mola. The female artisans use an ancient appliqué technique of hand sewing cut-out layers of fabric to form the intricate oval design.

Artisan technique:
The Kuna Textile was handsewn by artisan women of the Guna Dule community of Caimán Alto, Colombia. For generations, the artisan women have passed down an ancient appliqué technique of hand sewing cut-out layers of fabric to form an intricate piece of art. Each fabric is the unique design of the artisan woman who carefully crafted it.

Designer

Yasmin Sabet creates unique handcrafted pieces to infuse the perfect amount of freshness and sophistication into the wardrobe of the contemporary woman, aiming at bridging the gap between tradition and progress. Mola Sasa collaborates directly with various indigenous communities of Colombia to translate their own traditional art forms and crafts into unparalleled accessory collections defined by a distinctive blending of techniques, colors, textures and materials. Whether offering appliqué textiles, jewelry or weaving from the Kuna community, the Chimichauga people, the Kanukamo or the Zenú, over eighty families have benefitted from this initiative, both financially and with job training.
